Microchipping

Microchipping takes just seconds and feels similar to being vaccinated.

Protect Your Cat with a Microchip

As a cat owner, being separated from your feline friend is likely one of your biggest fears. Keeping your cat indoors is an excellent way to help them stay safe, but it only takes seconds for a frightened feline to dart out a door or window. And even a cat who is ordinarily well-behaved and shows little interest in the outdoors may try to sneak out in pursuit of an interesting smell or prey animal. Having your furry family member microchipped is the best way to maximize your chances of seeing them again if they ever get lost. At The Cat Clinic, we perform microchipping for cats in Columbia, Forest Acres, Shandon, and the surrounding areas and recommend this simple procedure for nearly all of our patients.

How Microchipping Works

Having your cat microchipped does not allow you to track them. Instead, microchips are a form of permanent identification. Every chip is linked to an online account that, once registered, contains your contact information. You can update this information at any time by going online. If your feline friend is ever picked up and brought to a shelter or vet’s office, they’ll be scanned for a chip. Once detected, the chip’s identification number will be used to look up your information. As long as your contact information is current, someone will reach out to you to reunite you with your pet.

Microchipping takes just seconds and feels similar to being vaccinated. The tiny chip is inserted using a syringe, and there is no need for anesthesia or special aftercare. Your cat can immediately resume their normal activities after leaving our office.
