Your kitten’s first visit should be scheduled as soon as you aquire it. Kittens will have two-three wellness visits by the time they are 16 weeks old.
Parasite control is our first objective with your new kitten. Treatment intestinal worms is administered at the first visit. If fleas and earmites are present they are also treated.
Vaccines are given starting at 6-8 weeks of age at three-week intervals. The last vaccines are given at 12-16 weeks of age when the kitten is spayed or neutered. Leukemia testing is recommended on the last visit, as test results are unreliable in younger kittens. If the kitten is going to be declawed that is also performed at the same time as the spay/neuter.
Ideally, kittens stay with their litter mates until they are 12 weeks old or they have a companion kitten. A kitten’s normal social development requires the opportunity to play with other kittens.
